Khidr Zine 2 Launch Party
Updated: Feb 21, 2019
With a central theme of healing, restoration and well-being, the Shifaa’ issue of the Khidr Collective Zine showcases work by artists, musicians, poets and writers finding strength and resilience in the mundane, the unfamiliar, and in places of comfort. We brought some of these wonderful people together to help us celebrate the launch of Issue Two at the Bush Theatre in January 2018.
Hosted by Khidr Collective members Aneesha and Abdullah, the evening saw both emerging and established artists, from musical talents Lex Amor and 4i to poets Sumia Jaama and 17-year-old Halil, come together to read, perform, exhibit and talk about their work on the theme of Shifaa’.
We also held Q&A sessions with photographer Sana Badri and author Nadifa Mohamed. Assistant Editor Zainab spoke with Nadifa after a reading of her 2013 novel The Orchard of Lost Souls. Sana and our Photography/Illustration Editor Nishat discussed Sana’s series ‘Healing Hands’, learning as a photographer, and colour theory in film.
‘Healing Hands’, exploring the idea of healing through everyday actions, was one of two series from Shifaa’ that we exhibited in the Corridor of the Bush. Jahied Ahmed’s striking photos of the Golden Hour recalls memories of Whitechapel Market as a child and can be viewed here.
It was a brilliant night with the Bush bursting at the seams. Thank you to all who celebrated Issue 2 with us! Catch snippets from our guests, performers and members of Khidr Collective below.
