Khidr Zine 3 Launch Party
Updated: Feb 21, 2019
On 21st November 2018, we held the launch for Khidr Collective Zine Issue Three at Mirth, Marvel & Maud in Walthamstow. The theme of Issue Three was Frontiers and we had an amazing array of artists involved including Farzana Khan, Javaad Alipoor, Dhelia Snoussi and Salma Ibrahim.
The night was hosted by Khidr Collective members Hareem Ghani and Ala Uddin who introduced the night with some brilliant poetry performances by Rakiya Esime Fetuga, Talha Ahsan, Abbas Mohamed (GAMA Collective). We then had a panel on ‘creativity, collectivism and social change’ moderated by Khidr Collective member, Zain Dada and featuring Imad Ahmed (People’s PPE), Salma Ibrahim (writer and co-founder of Literary Natives) and Zahra Dalilah (writer and co-founder of KIN). They discussed everything from ego in the arts scene to the importance of recognising when work is being replicated and what kind of support systems can be built for Muslim artists.
We ended the night with a spellbinding performance by musician, Kareem Samara who merged news-reels reporting on Palestine with the sound of his mesmeric Oud. Kareem wanted to end his piece in honour of Palestinian medic, Razan al-Najjar, who was killed by the Israeli Defense Forces in 2018. It was a fitting way to end the night.
